Dallas 1991 940 Turbo Transmission Safety Switch?
My daughter is at school in Dallas and has our Automatic '91 940 Turbo with 125k miles. About 18 months ago the gear shift **** came apart allowing the connecting rod and spring to lift out of the centre console. I had it fixed by my local shop, but 2 weeks later it broke again so I left it. The car has worked fine until mid Dec. '08. When it wouldn't start. i flew to Dallas, changed the battery out and with some assistance and long distance diagnostics help, figured out that it was the Neutral safety switch that was preventing it from starting. By applying a healthy length of duct tape, the car would start with some jiggling of the gear shift. Now the problem has become more frequent so I have two questions that I hope someone can help me with:
1) I'm looking for a low cost, trustworthy, non-volvo dealer in the Love Field area that can take a look at it for me.
2) Is this something I can fix myself next time I'm in town with minimal tools and no garage?
Thanks in advance!
