Greetings and good day! This is my first post, and the car in question is a 1996 850 TDi S. Ive read many forums on this site which helped me to service my vehicle and change all filters/oil correctly, so I thought I'd sign up and ask for any help or answers with the problem at hand.
So, when removing this hose pictured I found oil deposits inside where I dont think they should be. This is my first car so I'm still learning the names and mechanics behind all the pieces hah.
The old botch job before I removed to replace Inside the hose after removal
The new section to fit.
A quick google search makes me think it's either a fault with the turbo, or a build up of carbon and sludge inside the crank/engine in general getting backed up into this hose from pressure.
Is it a serious fault? The car still turns over and runs fine. Being a diesel it chugs along happily enough, drives pretty smooth. It has around 125k on the clock. I plan to take the car on some long camping travels in the near future, road trips and such, so I'm hoping I can just fit the new hose section and worry about fixing this issue later, providing it wont cause serious damage down the line - I want to keep this car and love it for many years. To the moon and back!

It is common on turbo charged gas or diesel engines to find small amounts of oil in the intake system. And that oil given enough time (since 1996) can damage rubber hoses from the inside out.
If the turbo bearings/bushings are loose/worn/bad you will get oil spraying into the intake or the exhaust. Enough oil and you will be driving a mosquito fogger and be using/loosing oil.
Certainly you should make sure the PCV system is clear and clog free.
Ahh I see! When I changed the oil filter last week the engine was down a little over half a litre - the filter itself didnt look to have been changed in recent history so I dont think I'm losing oil at a drastic rate. Checking over the pcv system is now on my list, but I guess the wagon will be okay for a while longer. Thanks a lot for your help!
