I just lost my 850
I was involved in an accident on Thursday... the Kia that hit me was obviously a wreck. Just yesterday I found out that State Farm had declared my car a total, and I'm absolutely devastated. I loved this car like no other... I put about 30k on her each year. Anyway, now that this seemingly-minor front end damage has declared this car a total, I'm ready to get rid of all the parts I can, and hopefully put the proceeds towards another Volvo. The problem is, I have no clue where to start, and how much the various - and very numerous - remaining parts in my car are worth. If anyone could help me by listing appropriate prices for this beautifully-maintained, car, I'd be grateful. The damage you see in the photo here is quite literally the only damage to the car - The turn signal is obviously a lost cause, but the headlight works, and aside from that it appears to be just the side panel, bumper, and front spoiler.
Thanks!

Why don't you buy back the auto from your carrier then purchase a used front clip and you have your auto back with dollars in your pocket. I spent many years in insurance claims and it was a 'usual practice' to sell the salvage back to the insd'. If you purchase it prior to receiving a cheque from the carrier you can probably avoid receiving a 'salvage' title. Your auto is repairable and is only a total because of the cost of new Volvo parts.
When my Talon was totaled I bought it back for $320 and recieved a check from the insurance company for $3300 (I only paid 1800 for the car to begin with) After I part the Talon out I'll have made over 5k from it's demise.
There's no way I would get rid of a car like that with just that much damage. It's totaled because the book value of the car is less than what it would take to fix it. Buy it back like the other guys said. It would be nice to not have the Salvage title, but even if it does it's no big deal.
Actually the insured would not receive a salvage title if he elects to receive the agreed replacement value less the cost of keeping the vehicle. The carrier would drop the collision and comprehensive on the vehicle and so it could still be insured for liability until the insured shows the carrier that it has been repaired. At that time full coverages could once again be added.
Wow, that is so unfortunate. My Mom had a Chrysler Lebaron 1978 that got hit by a drunk while it was parked. It was totalled and she only got $1800 and that was not enough to buy another reliable car!
and herein lines the exact problem with worthless insurance companies...this "assessed value" means very little to the rest of the world....i race with a guy who had a 68 satelite 4 door...with a big V8...the guy who owns it, bought it new in 1968...it wasnt in great shape...but it was MORE than reliable...he got hit by someone running a red light, and it was totaled..the assessed value was like 800 dollars..[:@]

That is soooo ridiculous! But I have been part of this insurance racket! We bought another used car for my Mom not knowing the history of the auto. We knew what was goignon with her car before it was plowed. It really wasnt even plowed. It needed the two left doors replaced and paint...the insurance company said the repairs were more than what the auto was worth. Maybe to them but not to my Mom!
Oh well, why keep full coverage on an older vehicle then?

Get that Volvo fixed (if you haven't already)! Volvos are great vehicles. I have an S80 that was hit on the front right corner (passenger) head-on by a Toy. 4Runner. It cost me a little over $3k to get the car fixed but it was well worth it. My wife - preganat at the time - and I did not feel a thing when we were hit head-on. We drove a couple of hundred miles back home with the car, got it fixed and she's back on the road just as strong as-ever. The 4Runner, as I understand it, had just over $6k in damage and had to be towed.
