Loss of Power
Got an issue with my 2001 Volvo V70. When I turn on my AC I have noticed a lack of power and acceleration. Haven't had a lot of experience with Volvos so am not sure if this is normal. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
All vehicles loss a little bit of their pep with the AC switched on.
It also affects the fuel economy.
Approx 10% is commonly stated but usually only noticeable under acceleration or heavier loads, inclines etc.

Thanks for you response difflock54, I do understand that there will be some loss, but it seems to be more than the usual 10%. Could this have anything to do with the computer be cause my "check engine light " comes on every time and when I turn it off the light will go out after a while.
Suggest you get her checked out for any fault codes.
Something is amiss for the CEL to keep coming on. With the codes,if any you will have some definate leads to work on and less guessing.
You may be in limp home mode.
Check the vitals for the engine and transmission whilst your driving her about undiagnosed.
i.e. oil, coolant, ATF etc and visible leaks. Check for loose vacuum hoses too.

Do you own a fault code reader that reads generic codes and can clear codes?
Alternatively some auto suppliers have them and will read your codes for you free of charge.
They can be bought quite cheaply especially on ebay.
It really is the best starting point as so many issues can be causing the CEL to come on.
Does the CEL light appear with the AC switched off and does the car perform normally whilst it remains off?
