Unhappy new to volvo already have issues

new to the Volvo world. Purchased a 2014 XC60 T6 3.0l AWD. Less than 1 year old Less than 10,000 miles on it. Third time in shop. Low engine oil light/oil consumption. Now dealer says we they need to put a new engine in it. Should I be afraid is this just a bad car?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Not as long as it's under warranty.

Call Volvo. I believe you are in the warranty.

Of course it is in warranty. I think he was just worried about the car in the future.

The SI6 motors have had a lot of oil consumption issues.

I've resealed cam covers, replaced cylinder heads, replaced pistons and replaced engines. There is a process we need to go through and all repairs must be approved by Volvo.

Yup it all depends on where you are at. If you are in states that have higher emmision laws you will see that even more. I'm in California and I've seen so many of these issues. I just finished putting an engine in an XC90. The third time will always be an engine and that seems to fix the problem. Other than that I think you've got yourself a good car.

Greetings, I am new to this particular forum but have 30+ years of ownership and service of Volvo and other cars. The first questions that came to mind after reading this is, where are you having your car serviced and is it a dealer or shop that you're familiar or experienced with? In my experience, it is very rare to get a new Volvo with this kinds of issues. But, as Damien360 says, some state emission regulations require modifications that can radically affect vehicle performance. I have never had a problem with any of my Volvo cars that I couldn't diagnose and/or repair.
