Out of Park
1992 - 240 Sometimes, cannot get "button" on top of automatic transmission shifter to depress and get out of park. Happening more and more often, now. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Prairie

There is an electric solenoid in the shifter assembly that allows the shifter to be moved - when the brake pedal is depressed - a bar moves out of the way to allow the shifter to be moved from park. You should be able to feel a click in the shifter when the pedal is depressed. (try it with the engine not running) If you don't feel that click - the shifter is not going to move.
For instance if the brake light switch is erratic or simply does not work anymore - the solenoid won't get power and the shifter won't move. I trust you know how to use the emergency shift lock release?
There are easy ways to defeat/remove that solenoid.
