Default Potential First Volvo

Cheers! I'm looking at a number of lease return Volvo S60s right now. Primarily considering the Inscription models, as I have kids and imagine the extra rear seat leg room will be worth it. It seems that many of the Volvo dealers in my area charge $2k extra to receive the Certified by Volvo warranty/benefits for an S60. Is this common? Is that warranty different than the online warranty extensions one can buy, from (Google search) Steingold Volvo? Struggling with a bit on the idea of paying that much for a warranty, on top of the remaining factory warranty. Perhaps I've been fortunate and am decent with doing my own repairs, but outside of consumables (tires, brakes, fluids, plugs, etc.) I don't think I've spent $2k on vehicle repairs in twenty years combined.

Can anyone clarify if the 5 year/unlimited mileage warranty is from the date of manufacture, not from the date of purchase???
