A couple thoughts - first, the "good enough" needs some context as to what you are intending to do with the car. If you want fuel economy, then this is a good option, unless you are not comfortable driving a manual (particularly in traffic). Also if I'm not mistaken the D3 is FWD not 4WD so again if that's important due to weather etc then you may want to consider a D5. As to the power, the only other consideration is whether you want to tow something large - if so check out the towing capacity specs.
Interesting choice - My wife just downsized from a Toyota Highlander to a Corolla Cross Hybrid (45mpg, no kidding) and loves the added nimbleness of the smaller car. We got the new car with roof bars so when we need extra space we drop on our Thule roof box. What you can do is figure out how many times a year you actually need the extra space and whether it can be accomodated with a roof box etc.
