MY C70 UPGRADES

I still don't like the cover. Still looks cheesey to me. Even rounding the edges wouldn't do it for me.
1. CF cover cool.
2. Anodized Aluminum cover, still cool.
3. I would even go as far as just painting it another color, with the right paint and prep work would look better.
Sorry just not a fan of hacking up engine parts like that.

until the aftermarket support for volvos seriously comes up to the level of honda, nissan or toyota, i will continue to attempt to make alot of things that i feel are needed to have a cool car. at least i'm trying and i do get alot of props along the entire east coast for my work.
Well what year is your c70? 1998 was the only year a cover was made in CF.
I was actually telling you to have a CF cover made or an anodized aluminum version made. I have never seen a premade aluminum one.
FYI the aftermarket support for Volvo will never become anything like Honda, etc... It just wont. There isn't enough of us to make it worth it for a company to truly make things to bring the prices down.

whats up Reg, the interior is at the hardest part now. i plan on getting the seats re-done in mirco fibre, black with red inserts. all the black parts will have red stitching aswell. the problem i'm having now it getting the red carpet for the floor pan and some red micro fibre close enough to the red fleece. i'll keep you all posted.
just for the record so far i only have about $120 in the interior already. thats the cost of the fleece, plastic and vinyl paints. i have a friend thats gonna give me a really good deal to do the rear seats and i plan on getting nice adjustable racing seats for the fronts in red and black.
i kinda got sidetracked cause i had to replace both control arms plus theinner and outer tie-rod ends, alighnments, timing belt, sparkplugsand paying for the trip to and from NY for christmas

..............got any money left?? How many miles do you have on the c70? Both tie rods and control arms gone? I hope you took it to TECH since he's down the block from you. I hesitate to think what the dealer would charge. At any rate, yeah, I do enjoy watching the progress on your c-70 and remember: who cares what some kid thinks of your auto. Do what you want. When I was in a fire fight my words to the troops was: Better a fearless end than an endless fear. Go for it.

i hear ya Reg. my C70 started life as a lease vehicle for some company in j'ville Fl. they dogged the crap out of it and it was in 2 collisions, one front end and driver's side impact, so that explained alot about why the headlights were fried, why the A/C didn't work and why the control arms, and all the parts of the tie-rods were busted. i replaced all those steering parts myself, the control armswere a challenge, but i got it done. 2 alighnments later and the car drives great.
i got some money left, but hey money comes and it goes, just keep making it and keep spending it thats what i say. i'm just at the hard part of the interior project the seats and the carpet, but i found what i need and now i just have to follow through. i have like 107,000 miles on my car and i bought it with like 83,000 miles. i could care less what people think about my cars, i get so much praise and postive feedback everywhere i go.
this one kid was searching for me at this one outlet mall when he saw my car parked in the lot and he has a really nice HPT C70 with some 10" wide audi wheels on it and some extras. and he was blown away by what i have done in a years time. he really liked my valve cover mod

thank you Reg, that means alot to me as a newbee here. i this short time that i've been here i really feel like part of the group. thanks everybody, i'll keep ya'll posted.
whats next....i keep asking myself that cause i do want to finish my interior, but i really do feel i need to rush that. then i have been playing with the idea of building my own 3" exhaust that will be the best you can get as far as performance, function, great soundand hot looks. i know i can get an OBX for under $300 and i can go for a IPD system and get that for like $600, but i wanna build it my way and it should cost a lil over $400. i'll have plenty of pics for which ever direction i choose to go, so just keep looking out.
i'm also caught between maintenance and parts replacments, so that also slows my progress.

It still looks awsome dude [sm=bling.gif]
You going to do any thing to the motor or are you just leaving it stock, well besides your 3in exhaust idea?
R manifold,T3/T4E turbo, CAI, ECU upgrade, RSI Rods and Pistons....[sm=smiley2.gif]

thankyou bro, i really appreciate the props.
i want to put a nice paint scheme on and build my louvered hood and a ducktail spoiler intergrated in to the trunk
i'm entertainting the thoughs of bolt-ons only right now, so i want all the bolt-ons i can get.
i will build my own CAI in which i will get an optima red top for a honda, why cause it's slimmer. i'm thinking about turning it vertically (looking into the engine compartment from the front). that will allow more room for the biggest cone air filter you can find and pretty much route it right behind the bumper if you want.
i really want that R exhuast manifold to top off my exhaust system. as for a turbo upgrade i was looking into the 19T and a manual boost **** to run 15 psi. if i get a crazy hair up my *** i might look into a internal WG T3/T4, ball bearing and water cooled center section.
yeah, i want that IPD computer update for sure.
then i want to hunt down that unorthodox racing underdrive pulley, maybe some adjustable cam gears too.
then i wanna see if the N/A intake manifold can be made to work on the turbo engine. i think that would do a few things:
1-make more torque and add intake volume.
2-make the throttle body more accessable for cleaning, replacing etc.
3-maybe make routing intercooler pipes easier for front mount intercooler set-ups
then i wanna see if the throttle body can be bored out and a butterfly plate be made to open it up to 60mm. maybe the volvo SUV's TB can be made to work, i dunno.
i really want my C70 to be a 5-speed, but i need more info and research on that swap.
i don't wanna dig into the engine cause i learned my lesson from playing with my 336WHP neon when it was my daily driver. always working on it, always down, and when it broke it broke hard and expensive.

ok heres an update, but nothing much.
i had an issue with my sound system and it was basically cutting out the entire passenger side everytime i hit a bump in the road ro made hard turns. so i played with the system for a while to see if i can find the problem and i stumbled on it, it was the rear amp.
i happen to tap on it while my music was playing and the passenger side cut out, then i hit it again and it came back on. so, i did that a few times and it was the problem.
so i went on ebay and found this volvo amp (the smaller one)

it's a 60x4 watt amp and it's smaller than the factory on that comes in the C70 which is a 100x4 (the bigger on in the pic) you can see how it looks like it was in a fire or something.

well i installed the amp and the system sounds so much better and you can't really tell that the amp is 40 watts short. i payed $70 on ebay for this amp and i'm happy with it, now i just need to find the sc-901 in great condition, so i can put the correct radio back in and use my dolby surround speakers.

i looked at the OBX exhaust system and it is an ok system, but i wasent impressed by it. when i used to have a subscription to sport compact car many years ago i read a tech article that made a debate on if you can build a performance exhaust system cheaper or equal value and be just as good as a pre-built one. since then i was sold on the idea that i can build a better exhaust system and it will be exactly what i want.
what i'm in the process of doing is building a full 3" exhaust for my C70 LPT using magnaflow cat , pre-muffler and street muffler with a 4" tip to finish. i'm also going to relocate the O2 sensors to the 3 o'clock position, for easier access. i was thinking about going V-band clamps for ease of removal, but i'm just gonna use stainlees band straps and make the exhaust a 2 piece unit.
this exhaust will be a lil more than the OBX, but i'll have exactly what i want. this will be the second exhaust i have built for my cars and i will post pics of the build-up once i get started. i just got 2 of the 3 exhaust components yesterday, a 3" magnaflow cat and a 14" long x 4" diameter muffler which will be followed by a magnaflow street muffler with a 4" tip. here are pics of the items on ebay.

i'll be getting all mandrel bent aluminized 3"exhaust tubing here locally with hangers, flanges, O2 bungs, and flex pipe. i might get a reducer to go from whatever the turbo outlet is to 3" that way it will be a smooth transition from small to large. i'll post pics when i get everything.

Eater............won't three inches hurt your performance? I'm speaking of the necessary back pressure by the way............ I was always under the impression that with a turbo there was a huge trade off with such a free flow. In fact on my BMW, Hartge specified a "normal" pipe diameter untill after the centre muffler and then open it up. The BMW uses Weber 45 DCOE's.

On NA cars, they need some backpressure, but as far as Racing a car or if you like to rev out the car, then you will want straight through mufflers and slighter bigger piping.

When it comes to a turbo bigger is beter, BUT there are limits for all turbos. A 3in turbo-back exhaust would be awsome upgrade for HPT volvos. Yes, you will lose some lowend power/troque, but the Gains at the topend will be plenty. Most people will find that a 3in downpipe to 2.5in catback will be plenty for street use.

Thanks!!! And again sorry.
New thread - 3" downpipe lowend power/ torque
Reg, turbos love to flow freely which helps them spin easier and faster, run cooler which makes power. doing this will also will minimize the pressure drop throught the exhaust system which will then make more pressure in the intake manifold. this is what makes power.
i also in the future, i plan on getting that 19T turbo thingy once i know where to find one and increase my boost to like 15 psi and that will require a 3" exhaust to run efficiently.
if anybody is wondering where i get my info from it's MAXIMUM BOOST by Corky Bell. i have studied this book for a whole year before building my 336WHP turbo neon before the SRT was even thought about.

In 1962 I bought a Corvair Spyder with a turbo....150 H.P. and G.M. was quick to point out that a large exhaust would harm things. In the same year, Oldsmobile brought out a turbo F-85 with water injection and the mechanics at the Olds dealer where I was a car jockey at found that power was lost with a modified exhaust. In 1969 I bought a left over Covair Corsa turbo, 180 H.P. and put a big Walker muffler on it and my performance went down the drain. That is what prompted my comments. The turbos of those early days were pretty crude........they used a Carter YH side draft carb on the Corvairs. One last comment, on the 68 Corsa, when I took the muffler off and drove with only the exhaust pipe, the sound was beautiful and there was a teriffic whine as the turbo spooled up..............
