1041 axle gear oil
I've searched like crazy and need to verify this: My '92 745 has the 1041 rear. I've read that this is not a LSD that needs friction modifiers but rather a lockup type with no clutch. And that I am to use standard 75w90 gear oil. Can anyone please verify this for me? Thanks, C.
p.s. I am so happy that Grandma's wagon that we inherited has the posi rear. This car rocks in the snow and I want to keep it that way!

Yes but I don't know where I read that. I'm looking for confirmation that the 1041 has no clutch.
I searched more today and it seems that the 1041 rear is by Eaton and that it uses a standard GL-5 gear oil (MIL-L-2105 B or C that has been replaced with D that has been replaced with MIL-PRF-2105E which seems to trump all previous oils). Until someone tells me different, I'm going with a good 80w90 (recommended weight by Volvo) API GL-5 dino or synthetic. The Lucas 80w90 sounds like it's pretty robust with lots of additives to reduce the clunk I'm hearing now.
If anyone has more info, I would like to hear it. Thanks, C.
