My odometer quit working at 129k mi was jw if i need a whole new instrument cluster or maybe could jerry rig something to make it work? Thanks people, btw im still new to this forum so excuse my etiquette lol

 

Did you reset the trip odometer when it broke? Does the trip read all zeros?

 

Yea it resets to 0

Can't say I have tackled this myself, but it is easy to remove the instrument cluster...

I've had two 240s and replaced the odometer gears on both of them. The hardest part of the job is keeping track of your screws! Very easy job. It is one expensive little gear though. I've decided I'm never going to reset the trip on the 240s again.

 

have an 88 245...mine just broke at 192k...it doesn't seem like it's gear related though...
i changed the oil and added a battery disconnect switch today so had to disconnect the battery... and i also had to use a fuel filter wrench and noticed a few sparks as the metal part of the wrench ran across some wires of the alternator accidentally (not sure if the battery was disconnected at this point)...then when i started going i noticed the odometer and trip stopping moving, i'm able to reset the trip tho...
even though it doesn't seem gear related...i'll open it open it up when i get the chance:/
any other insights?

 

you really should start your own thread, but... if the speedo is workng and the odo isn't, its almost certainly the gear. my 87 240 died at 250243 or something 15 years ago.
