Default 1987 245 DL Wagon Wiper Issues

I have a 1987 245 DL volvo wagon.

My windshield wiper keeps blowing my 2nd fuse (16 amp). I have bought a new switch and a new motor.

Here is everything that I know:
1.) When I turn the car ignition to the first and second spots (the ones before actually starting the car) and the new wiper motor is not plugged in the fuse does not blow.

2.) When I plug the new motor in most times the fuse blows right away when I turn the ignition to the first spot.

3.) Sometimes if I turn the ignition on slowly (or seemingly just get lucky) the fuse does not blow. It will than blow when I put the wiper switch on the low setting (wiper wand down one click) or the high setting (wiper wand up one click).

4.) I got the fuse to not blow once when adjusting the wiper switch and I did observe that the wiper motor was warm to the touch but it never worked.

5.) I also know that my wipers are not locked as they do move freely when unattached from the motor.

Does any one have any clue which piece of the puzzle is going wrong, i'm going through a lot of fuses....

Thanks

I would suspect the wiring running to the wiper motor. Your car may have the biodegradable wiring that causes all kinds of electrical issues.

If it's blowing when you turn the key, without having turned on the switch for the wiper, I would suspect the wire that feeds constant 12v to the motor to be the issue. This wire is used to bring the wipers back to the "home" position when the switch is turned off mid-swipe. I'd start with checking that.
