Default Door Handle Issue- '87 240

Hello! Just today I went out to get in old faithful and the door handle is giving me an issue. I ran a search on what I thought it was doing, but I must be explaining it incorrectly because none of the issues were the same as what mine is doing. So, the handle moves and everything but right before it opens the door the handle gets spongy. It's almost as if a spring is stretched out or something. I have to pull the handle a couple times for it to open. Now, I did read that the lock may not be unlocking all the way so I tried pulling up on it and it did not help. So, I don't believe the lock is the culprit. Would a new handle fix this? Any insight is much appreciated! Thank you!

The handle mechanism is very simple. Just take the handle out and see what's going on. All the mechanism, pivots, etc. can use some lubing and tightening, so, just get in there, it's not hard. Whatever the issue, somebody has to get in there and see what's going on. You may not need a new handle at all...
