1990 740 fuel tank
I recently bought a '90 740 from an old lady that let the car sit for over 3 years with very little unstabilized gas in it. The fuel system was trashed. My mechanic tried to clean the gas tank out as good as he could, but sediment gets pulled up and clogs the fuel filters on long drives. I talked to a radiator shop about getting the tank burn cleaned (I think that's what he said) but they recommended me looking for a different tank from a junk yard. The only tank I could find was from an 86 760 sedan, non turbo. This tank is plastic, but the junk yard guy said that it should fit. Any body know if this is true? It would be a lot cheaper. Any advice? Thanks for looking.
Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I felt suspicious about the 760 Sedan tank fitting my 740 Wagon. Good to know about the Hollander database though, I wish I had known about that all long. Looks like I'll just stick to paying a little more to get my current tank cleaned. I'm a little nervous the cleaning may expose a hole in the tank. Anybody with experience care to share their thoughts? Thanks a bunch!
Pretty sure the '90 tank is plastic as well, and pretty sure wagon and sedan are the same. Putting the larger 20 gallon tank in the older pre 93 Volvos is common. At any rate, if the JY says it will fit, then go for it...
