Default 1990 740 turbo

250,000 miles

Would a bad/worn out turbo cause pressure to build in the engine?

Been trying to sell my car for $500 but no takers, if I can rebuild the turbo for $400 or so and keep the car that would be awesome, but don't want to do if rings are shot and that is why I have excess pressure.

Thanks much!

No, it wouldn't. The number one reason for high cc pressure in a B230 is a clogged flame trap/pcv system. An hour of time, $8 of carb cleaner and an oil change afterwards will almost always be the cure. Be sure the small nipples on the intake manifold are not clogged. I have had them so clogged I had to drill them out w/ a tiny drill bit.
