Default 1990 745 interior leaks

Hello All,

Some may remember I bought a car with the heater core leaking. Thanks to many of you fine folks and the Brickboard I am happy to say that job is finished. And if anyone ever tells you it is easy do not believe them. I am mechanically inclined, plus a regular DIY'er and it took at least 10+ hours between three days to complete. While I was washing the rugs and foam of antifreeze I found a water leak and a big hole in the car. Goodie another project!

After doing a spray test we narrowed it down to the lower left driver side door area. Water seems to come from two places.

First a drop or two through the door jam, where the wires poke through. Looks like some hacking went on and broke the seal.

Here is a pic of that plus another place which I can't figure out. It's this big black rectangle which leaks water from the bottom. I tried to remove it but there must be a trick to taking it out and I don't want to break it.

Anyone know what this is, how to remove it, and wear the water is getting in from? Were thinking sunroof drains........ perhaps.

Finally a pic of this patch over the rusted hole which has since been welded and primed by my best bud Wolfe.

Thanks for your input everyone.

You are on the right track. That black plate is an old, here unused vent cap which has to be reglued all around to keep the water from getting in-some silicone does the job nicely, concentrate on the bottom half!

The water is coming in from that vent and I can't get any silicone in the joint because it has not stopped raining here for 2 days with 2 more to go. What I really want to know is how is the water is getting in from the outside to behind that vent plate?

Since it's already raining outside I decided to cover the car in different areas to find the source of the leak. Looks like the diver side left lower window area? But then some water went into the leaf grate on the hood and the water started dripping in the car. I'm just throughly irritated by this whole thing.

The water gets in from the front air cowling (leaf grate), and that is the way it was designed. With age that plate gets unglued and water seeps through. If you have the area covered that should give you a chance to glue the opening-doesn't take much.
