Default 1990 Volvo 240 DL Clock

Hi all,

I've got my lovely low mileage 1990 240 DL, and everything works except the clock in the cluster (I know I should count myself lucky for this). I'm wondering if there maybe a simple reason for this, or will the cluster need to be removed?

Thanks

the connections are on tjhe back of it, about the only way to get to them to do any electrical tests, etc, is to pull it out.

Wait... before you do that... check the fuse. My clock stops from time to time, and all I have to do is take out and clean the fuse. If that works, it is easier than removing the cluster. Then, I'd pull the cluster.

Thanks, zjinqui1k. Fuse 13 controls more than just the clock, so did you just have problems with the clock or other cluster issues as well?

on a 1990 240, its fuse 8, not 13. In addition to the clock, it powers the dome lights, electric antenna, electric locks, trunk light and so forth.

Yes... It does power a few other things, but those are all things that might not work... and you might not notice (say if you don't use your radio/or the antenna is broken, or you get in your car during the day... etc.).
See what is on the same fuse as the clock (it should be listed on the fusebox cover). See if they work. If they all work, fuse is good, move on to taking out cluster and examining the clock connections. That's all I'm saying.

I got my 240 clock working years back by wiggling the tip of WD40 in the front of the clock where it pulls out to adjust and sprayed some in it. Sometime condensation can make them be inaccurate or completely stop.

Thanks all for the suggestions -- I'll start with the fuse, and go from there.
