Default 1992 240 Rearview Mirror Replacement

Hi ...

Any tips on removing the outer housing in the ceiling to replace the rearview mirror. It has to be removed so the two bolts can be exposed. I have read that there are two plastic tabs and they can easily break it not careful.

Appreciated.

The mirror is designed to break away if hit by maybe a human head - just grab and pull - it will come off! And yes on the sedans (i think) the square plastic cover has tabs that will break because they are xxx years old dried out plastic.

Yes, the cover is what I am worried about. Once I get the cover off, it should be easy. Just didn't know if others have had luck getting the cover off w/o breaking the tabs.

when the mirror is unsnapped, its cover stays on it.

You can carefully pry off one end of the cover to unsnap it, it all depends how brittle it is after all the years in the sun.

Replaced today with a used OEM part. Unfortunately, the plastic cover was brittle and broke. Other than that, easy job. Oh well, not the end of the world ... better than a stick up newer style mirror.
