Default 1992 940 dashboard temp sensor

On my 1992 940 the dashboard temp gauge is erratic. Everything I've read says that this sensor is located under the intake towards the front of the engine and has a single wire.

However there are 2 wires at this spot on my car and they look to have been worked on in the past ( past receipts show the "temp sensor" was r&r 7years and 65,000 ago).

I tired to unplug the wires from the sensor but the gray plastic piece just slid down over the wires.

Any thoughts?

The '92 have two wires, earlier models have one.
The wiring is probably loose and yes, it seems like some repair was done.
What to do now? You may need to get another plug with longer wire leads and splice them into the wiring to achieve a good connection. Looks like the plug is not in the best of shape.

You can buy a new wire WITH rubber insulator for $8 EACH from IPD....

or go clip some from the junkyard.

Or just push em on there good and hope for the best....

In your first pic, the back part of the plug is there, but in your second pic the plug has been pulled apart! Make sure you have a good plug and also a pair of good wires without rotted rubber. Go clip from a junkyard car from a part of the engine bay that doesn't get as hot. Or even better, from the interior!

Here is the link for the wire repair you can use:
