1995 volvo 940 - high mount stop light
Can anybody give me some advice on removing the third brake light housing without braking the assembly. Check the owners manual , it indicates to wedge a screwdriver under housing and use both hands to pull the thing, Its starting to crack. I'm attempting to install a a led rear spoiler and connect the wires to the high mount light. Is there a better way to do this.

is this a sedan or wagon? and what color interior? I've found the tan interiors to be particularly brittle, but as time moves forward, they are all getting bad.
I'd find those wires in the trunk area and leave the light alone.
note that tapping any of the brake lights will likely trigger the bulb failure sensor when you step on the brakes.

Thanks for responding, It's a sedan with grey /black dash with grey cloth seats. I guess the additional electrical load on the brake circuit may trigger the lamp out display to illuminate. What would happen if the high mount stop light was eliminated and only the spoiler stop light was in use?. Its visually impossible for me to locate or trace the wires coming from the 3rd brake light. Whats under the rear deck cover were the speaker are located. How do the speaker covers come off?

the 3rd brake light goes through a 2-pin connector which the diagrams show to be somewhere left of the light, has pin 1 yellow-black (brake light power) and pin 2 black (ground). I think I'd remove the carpet liners from the trunk left side and against the back of the back seat, and see if you can find that connector there somewhere.
as far as how to take apart the rear parcel tray on a 940 sedan, I dunno, my 940s/740s have been wagons. my wife did have a S90 sedan for awhile but I never dug into the parcel shelf. The wiring diagram for the 940 doesn't really show how the cabling is routed, but I know most of the trunk wires go down along the left edge of the car, right next to the door sills, then over the left rear wheel well and into the trunk.
huh, VADIS (parts catalog) shows a factory spoiler option on 940 sedans, with a third brake light, that plugs into that same 2-pin connector.
