Default 240 dying battery problem/solution!

Hey all,
I'm new to these forums and I had to join to point out a problem I had with my 240. My battery kept dying, so I went all the usual routes, battery, alternator, fuses, loose wires. My car kept dying. It was frustrating me to no end. Usually a dead battery/electrical issue is something I can fix/replace, but this was something I finally had to take to the garage. It was the flywheel to my alternator. It had decayed and was not spinning enough to charge my battery. If you have a similar issue and cannot figure out why your battery won't charge, this might be the culprit. Happy Volvo motoring!

"Flywheel to my alternator"?

Please explain what that is!

Sorry, maybe flywheel was inaccurate. I think it's called a pulley wheel. The engine drives a belt to make the pulley wheel on the alternator spin, in effect spinning the alternator to charge my battery. It was faulty, so even though the pulley was spinning, it was not enough to charge the battery. Hope this helps and sorry for the confusion.

...or so the mechanic told me, but it did come from a reputable business called Volvo am I here in Phoenix. I've not looked intently at a pulley wheel, but he explained to me the outer (metal) pulley wheel is attached to an inner (metal) pulley wheel that attaches to the alternator and these two metal pieces are held together with something that erodes. If I was scamed, they fixed something that I and several others went dumbfounded with for weeks.
It does make sense, though. I replaced my battery twice and my alternator during this escapade along with a lot of wires and quite a few fuses/regulators, but it kept slowly dying. I was so sick and tired of charging my battery every other day or so. I have not had the problem since, so I'm happy.
