240 New Valves & Guides, Still Stuck
Hey guys,
As most people are who create threads, I’m confused.
I’ve got a B230F from an ‘86 244. I’m rebuilding the engine right now for the experience. My timing belt was slipping and found the cam won’t rotate.
Got into it and the intake valves were seized. I finally got them out, but to be safe, I got new intake valves and guides. The machine shop replaced the guides, and I went to put in the valves... and they won’t slide in. It’s about as tight as the old ones. What secret do I not know that someone can tell me?

Go back to the machine shop and have the valve stems measured as well as the guides. Have them ream to spec. clearances.
Jagtoes, I’ve been studying up on reaming and other methods. I did not know this was a common problem. I’ll probably be doing exactly that. It seems like the best solution (although my machine shop just pissed me off by returning a rusty block to me, so we’ll see).
