My 91' 240GLT has gotten sick.

My wiper's are moving real slow, motor's replaced. Its still slow, there is a terrible squesk from the mechanism...which I can feel it moving from below the dash. Is this a common problem?? I am from Malaysia and tropical climate ..and busted wiper system is a no no...please help...

Look at the mechanism, take it apart, lube it up, make sure it's not too worn in some pivot spot, or loose--it's not too complicated... The "terrible squeak" is a scream of pain of some part not being in the best of condition.

 

if you remove the glovebox you can see most of it. take your new motor back out, and work it by hand ti see whats binding.

 

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll try it out. Now the challenging question. Can the wiper mechanism be removed without removing the entire dash? One of the local mechs in town mentioned that's the only option. A decent used mechanism is fairly priced here. May even be able to get it for couple o bucks and the junk yard. But the labor charges for removing the dash ,make me shiver hence the diy plan. Thanks

No, you don't need to remove the dash to get to that mechanism--it should be a relatively simple procedure although I personally have never done that on a 240.

 

Zen of Volvo 240 Wiper Linkage seems to detail it pretty well.
