Default 245 dl powersteering issue

I replaced the power steering pump on my '79 245 DL wagon with one taken from a junk yard. I bought the car a year ago. The pump was bad and hadn't been working for who knows how long. The replacement pump seemed to work well after putting a quart of fluid in it. After a couple days however, the pump was dry and the steering groaned when I drove. I haven't noticed any leakage in the pump or the connections. The steering is better than with the other pump. Has the system been so starved for fluid that I need to keep adding fluid for awhile? Is there some other common power steering issue with these models? Thanks!

I can move mountains with the power steering on my car. It may not have had enough fluid in it. Add some more, but if it keeps disappearing you need to look for a leak. You can do that by turning the car on, and having someone turn the wheel back and forth for you.
