4th Gear disengagement light on '93 940
Hi, ok, yes, I am not technically minded, or a mechanic; however, I have this intermittent problem that is puzzling me and never seems to be a current problem when I take the car into the shop. So, here I am.I have a '93 940 wagon, automatic transmission with 159K miles. My problem is: Without warning, and definitely withoutpressing the "disengage" button on the shifter, the ARROW light on the dashboard lights up to disengage 4th gear, leaving me to drive with only 3 gears. I have tried pressing the button, many times, but it does not change the situation.Accelerating or deccelerating does notmakethis problem change. It may stay like this for minutes, hours or days. Then without warning, the light will go off and the car will shift into and out of 4th running normally again. Any ideas? I would sure appreciate your expertise here! Thanks!
Could be something as simple as a shorting switch on the shifter or a wiring gremlin somewhere along the line. Doesn't sound like a tranny problem... electrical more likely.
