I have posted here before and read all trans posts, but don't remember seeing this problem. My 740 won't go into overdrive. Got advice here about changing relay and i finally did that. It still won't shift into overdrive until i have driven about 15 miles and car is good and hot.

How about taking it to a trans shop like Cottman that do free checks?

Any thoughts??? Thanks

 

It might also be the Overdrive soleniod.
Or it could be a bad Transmisison.

You can try that route as well. See what they say.

 

Sorry, some of my post got left out. A local mechanic said there was a temperature sensor in the trans somewhere, or the regular thermostat may be bad??? This winter, around the time the problems started, the temp guage began only going 1/2 way between cold and middle where it has always been since i had the car.

Any thoughts on that? Thanks

 

No temp sensor in the trans.
If the guage was reading normal then nothing should be wrong.

 

what does the overdrive solenoid look like and where is it located?

 

The soledniod is mounted on the left side of the transmission about half way down it. There is a single wire coming off it and going up to the shifter.
