Hi everyone.

I have an 88 740 turbo with a 4 speed manual transmission + OD. 167,00 mi. When I shift into second gear I can feel resistance and gear sync. Occasionally it will not engage 2nd at all.

The previous owner said he replaced the transmission at 140,000 mi. I'm not sure if it was used or refurbed.

I did a search of the forum and could not find any related threads. Can there be a possible adjustment or am I losing 2nd gear?

Could be a bent shift fork, second gear synchro going bad or you may need a clutch. How does it shift into the other gears, is the reverse easy?

 

Reverse, 3rd, 4th and OD are smooth. It shifts great except 2nd gear

 

Most likely it's the second gear synchro going bad.
