Smile 84 240 GL adding Cruise Control questions

Hello,

If any of these answers were in other threads, my apologies. I could not find any answers for my specific questions here or on turbobricks.

'84 244 GL
Looking to add CC to my M46. First, I already have a multi-function switch and the cruise control module. I still need the vacuum servo. Any help finding this is appreciated. Not sure what else I will need. I've been on Dave Barton's page and unfortunately, he does not have this information available. :( I heard a rumor that in order to add CC, the speedo in said car needed to have a "special" speedo. Can anyone confirm this? I would think that Volvo would add the capability to all of their cars especially since this was a dealer installed option. It would be in their best interest in terms of add-on sales.... Any way, I appreciate any constructive feedback. TIA

Amber

I would think your best bet is to look for a donor car. I think this option is more complicated then it appears. I don't believe volvo built anything in as it was a rare option.

Never done a 240, but have added CC to several 740/940.
Speedo should be the same for CC cars or not. You'd need the vacuum pump, the vacuum "dump" switches and tubing for the pedals, the main brain, and the throttle/cable parts for that car. Best way to do this is to find a 240 in a wrecking yard and get all the pieces you need. Again, this is for a 740/940 but I should think a 240 would be similar if not the same...

on the 240, the CC servo was actually under the dash, pulling directly down on the gas pedal, instead of just doing the throttle under the hood like the 740/940. the servo itself was mounted next to the pedal, and had a short bowden cable that looped around to pull the pedal down. there's also a vacuum pump/valve module that actuates the servo bellows.

our 87 240GL came with it, it stopped working some time in the mid 90s, due to the bowden cable being rusted up solid.
