Default 87 240 dl problem no start

Hi all. I have a serious problem w/ my 87 240dl volvo wagon. It ran fine for about 4-5 years and ran fine before i got it too. (4-5 years ago)

But last week i was driving and all of a sudden my car turned off and i couldnt start it. So i pulled in to a parking lot and i still couldnt start it. After 15-20 mins i tried again and it started. I drove home and the next day i drove around w/ it working fine. Now monday i went to work and my car died on the way. I could not start it back up. I thought i may have had low fuel because i didnt have enough time to get some before work. I filled it up w/ 2 liters of gas and tried to start it. No luck. So my dad's been looking at it and we thought it was 3 different things. One we thought it was the distributer button gone bad. Replaced that and no luck. Two we thought it was the box beside the right wheel. (forgot what its called) and Three we thought it could be the fuel pump.

We noticed that the problem we have is that we dont get any fire. Therefor it cant start. We also looked to see if any wires were touching to see if power was shorting out somewhere.

Please someone help me!!

At the back of the engine there is a speed sensor. It goes into the back of the engine at the top of the transmission where it meets the engine. If the outside sheilding is cracked at all replace it.I would also check the fuel pump relay.Did you have power to the pump?

Weve checked the fuel pump relay and it works. We also checked for power to the pump. But then again, the pump doesnt work unless the car is running. My dads friend who is a car tech said to check if there is a short somewhere. My dad said he checked and he wasnt getting power to something. So that means there is a wire that shorted out something. Anyone got ne suggestions as to what it could be?

The engine harness has a habbit of going bad.Look for a pretty big grey plug with 8 wires.Make sure none of the wires on the engine side are touching. If they are tape them up for now and see if that helps. If your dad was talking about no power to the injectors make sure you check the engine speed sensor. If the sensor is bad you won't have and power to the injectors.

Hellooooo I am the Ant's father.

Cannot get fire to the plugs or out of the coil.

replaced distributor,

Have tried bypassing starter, will turn over, no start,

still lookin for power amplifier, but have power to coil, 12v but not out of coil secondary ..... replaced that also.

ck'd wires for short,.. kinda cannot find anything yet, but have to qualify that.
The block on the firewall Bhind engine, grey w/ 8 wires, had bare wires and have already retaped and put heat shrink over them.
It ran for a few minutes in driveway after I did this, but was running Bfore I did it also. I ran it in driveway, let it run for 15-20 minutes. Buttoned it up, came back several hrs later to go to store, no start and hasnt fired since.

Im ready to give up and have it towed to the mechanics t'nite. Hate that but ... [&:]

thanks for your replys...

The power stage is locate on the inside of the drivers side fender. It is a little black box mounted on a peice of aluminum. It also has a big black plug. Also did you check the speed sensor like I suggested?

I had a similar problem with my 1987 240DL. The car would die suddenly while driving and restart only after waiting for 1-3 hours. Turned out to be the Mass Air Flow sensor. After this was replaced, the car ran fine again.
