'88 240 wagon needs help!!
Well i just bought this car for $500 so i knew i was getting into a bit of a hassle. I've got a problem with what I believe to be the external fuel pump. I'm hoping it's not the in-tank because i really don't want to have to drop the whole thing.
Sometimes the car struggles to start and fails. It's been stalling on me every time I drive as well. It seems to just cut out unexpectedly. Could be electrical, could be the pump itself failing, I'm really not knowledgable yet so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I had a problem very similar to that. However, it got to the point where it wouldn't even start anymore. Chances are its your external fuel pump. If it was your internal pump, the car would run - just poorly. However, because it doesn't seem that your car is doing it all the time and hasn't gotten to the point where it won't start any more. It may be your fuel filter. When's the last time you've had it changed? It may be clogged, and fuel can't flow into the engine, causing it to stall.

The guy I bought it from had the fuel filter replaced 3 years ago, I believe. Everyone else I've talked to seems to think it's the external pump also. I've got a brand new one to install so we'll see where that gets me! It's always good to hear the same suggestions a few times from people who know the cars very well. Thanks a lot!
