Question 88' 740, What is this part called?

Had a coolant leak, found the part causing the problem. But I can not seem to find what this part is exactly, which is making it hard to find a replacement.

This is a Heater Control Valve. This one is of the all plastic, after market replacement variety. Many cars use it, around $15...

Ok, one last question. Do I actually need this part? My car does not have any air conditioning or heater components in it anymore, so can I get away by just putting a short piece of tubing in place of the control valve?

you have no heater?

then you should connect the heater hoses together and not run them through the heater core, so the heater out port from the engine is connected to the heater in line. or cap off both ports, but you have to use somethign that can withstand coolant pressure of 10psi or so.

Ok, I think I will just connect them together. Thanks!

what's wrong with your heater? Unless the core is bad, the rest is easy to make operational; anywhere in the CONUS temps get low enough where having some warmth is not a bad thing.

never mind defrosting without a heater is a bummer

you say your car doesn't have any heater components in it?!? what does that mean, the whole dashboard has been removed, and all the air ducting, along with the fan and heater box have been taken out ?

is this some sort of gocart/rail stripped down rat mobile?
