Default Volvo 850 Turbo stalling and sometimes starting

Hello all, I am new here to the forum and have a question pertaining to my new car.
Well recently I purchased a Volvo 850 turbo, and it ran like a dream in my first few days of ownership.
Then, I took the car out for lunch and it stalled out on me within my first couple miles of driving. It then started up and we made it to the restaurant.
When leaving it wouldn't start.
I could hear my fuel pump prime and it cranked hard.
Left it, went back the next morning and it started up fine! Ran for another few days fine then stalled out again. When trying to restart it would crank and fire up, my rpm's would go to 2000 then drop back to 0 and it would cut off. Today I went out to start it and it will crank but not start, and I no longer hear my fuel pump priming.
Decided it was time to consult the forum! Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Normally I'd link a bunch of stuff but I don't have time. It very much sounds like you have a bad fuel pump relay. It's under the fuse box.
When it's NOT starting there is a way to bypass it with a wire or paperclip to check to see if it cures the problem. No fuel at valve intermittently sure sounds like a bad relay.

Do a search for fuel pump relay diagnostics or testing. Lots of articles on it.
There is a different relay for turbo and non turbo, at least for my year.

Member "Rspi" might have a diagnostic video on youtube.

Thanks a ton, looked up the video, dropped the paperclip in, started up first try! Have the part ordered, hopefully this will be the extent of my problem!

That will likely fix that problem, but around the next corner there are other mysteries waiting.

When you pulled the relay and put the paperclip in was it not starting immediately before you tried the paperclip ??

The was it works as a test is to have the car in a no start condition and then quickly pop in the wire/paperclip and see if it will start and run. If it does you can always double check by putting the relay back in and it should only crank. There is also a repair for the relay if you're a fairly good solderer and want to give it a try with a couple radio shack parts.
