I have a 1990 volvo 740 gl 2.3l mfi 4 cyl that needs new struts ... Well my friend said I'd be better to buy loaded struts instead of just the strut inserts. Only prob is I can't find loaded struts for my year an model anywhere.. So my question is can I use loaded struts for a 240 or 940 on my 740?

 

You should be able to use 940 struts on a 1990 740, NOT 240 ones. Still, check with your installer...

easy to find parts. my go to list of Volvo friendly online stores include FCP Euro, EEuroparts, IPD USA, AZ Autohaus, Tasca Parts (dealer site, great for Genuine Volvo part prices). EEuro carries prebuild struts for many models but not sure about older 740s. Many eBay stores too but these struts are not very hard to disassemble. Use dealer sites like Tasca for diagrams of the components.

 

if you are replacing the struts, you probably should replace the strut mounts, too.
