i have a 93 volvo 940 and im havinfg problems with the sunroof. it wont open , when i hit the switch the motor works for like 2 seconds moves the roof 1/2 inch and stops then the same back the other way. like something is binding. i was able to puch it it back a bit and try the motor and it moved it a good distance then back the other way and it went ok then slowed down and stopped . then moves a little back and forth the same as it did in the begining. any ideas here? i was going to see if anything was binding but i cannot see the back of the mechanism , only half of it. it looks ok. is the motor weak? i took it out and it seems to run good. is it out of adjustment? any help would be appreciated. thanks!

 

May need a good lubing of the runners and or cables-spray WD40 to the parts you see and work it little by little.

 

I would definately give it a good lubricating with some WD 40. If that doesn't do it you could take the whole thing apart which is kind of a pain to do but you could check eveything to see if it is binding. Also can you hear the gears slipping? Mabye it's just a problem with gears slipping or not catching.
