Default 940 1993 huge running issue

Hi,
I need help diagnosing this problem that my volvo has had for a long time now and i just can't figure out what the actual problem is The car is undriveble. So the car starts but dies after second or two. No idle at all. If i want to keep the car running i have to play with the throttle ALOT and it runs terribly. Also my brother noticed that there were loud pops coming from the airfilter box as i was trying to keep the car running.
I have done some service to the car:
-Air intake manifold gasket change
-Throttle body gasket change
-Fuel filter
-Cap, rotor and wires
-Spark plugs
-Egr valve cleaning
-Pulsair valves change
-Pcv valve and oil breather box change

And the car behaves exactly the same as before. So could it be a faulty distributor or faulty injectors? Or something else? Help me out! Thanks in advance!
Car is 1993 940 sedan with B230FD engine

Hows the IAC valve?

Does it run better with the MAF unplugged?

Hows the fuel system?

pops suggest backfiring which suggests the timing belt may have slipped on the cam

Thanks for the help. I unplugged the MAF and the car was running better. It wasn't running perfectly but engine did not stall once and the car was actually drivable. YAY! I cleaned the MAF with air sensor cleaner but nothing changed. I plug the MAF wire back on and the engine stalls almost immediately. So is it a faulty MAF? Timing belt was fine.

The timing belt may look fine, but you may want to use remove the top timing cover to make sure the timing gear lines up with the timing mark as well as the harmonic balancer is lined up with its timing mark. This marks TDC (Top Dead Center). If it's off by a tooth, replace the belt and tensioner.
As for the MAF, it wouldn't hurt to replace it.

Gotta agree with pierce on this. Although the MAF and the timing belt might be fine it requires a closer inspection.

The point. Pulling the MAF is simply to force it to run in a pre programmed mode. This will cause terrible gas mileage, but establishes a baseline of "How bad is it"

What happened to me was the roller pins that hold the timing gears to the cams were sheared. I replaced them with solid stainless steel pins from IPD. The only way to know that is is to pull the belt and cams. This is also a very common problem with these engines.

The belt also may have slipped a tooth, both things will cause terrible problems such as you described.
