My son, in his infinite wisdom, removed the original radio from the 940 wagon, and installed some aftermarket piece of junk. I learned it was an 'Anti-theft' radio recently, and would like to reinstall the original. Will I need some sort of code to reactivate it? If so, how is that found?

 

usually people write the code somewhere in the owners manual, or even on a sticker on top of the stereo.

short of that, I don't think Volvo dealers can look it up by VIN anymore.

note there's probably an amplifier to the left of the steering column, above where the clutch pedal might be if you had one. *IF* he used a volvo 940 specific harness adapter, most harnesses have a connector you plug in to the speaker wires that otherwise plug into said amp, so you'll need to fish that harness out and plug the amp back in. if he *didn't* use a harness adapter, then the wires have been cut and good luck.

BTW Volvo dealers still have the codes and look them up. By VIN or by the radio's serial number on the radio itself...

 

The local dealership gave me the radio code for my 1992 last month. I gave them the VIN.

 

ah, ok. maybe a dealer blew off the guy who was complaining (elsewhere) that he couldn't get the code from his.
