I have a 88 240 and live in az and I was wondering what all componments it needs to make it actually have working ac I see that it has a compressor but that's all I see

 

I've been a bit concerned about answering AC questions lately because working on them is not recommended for the novice. If you do not have a refrigeration certification, I do not recommend doing any DIY type work.

However, in the interest of information, an automotive AC system has the following components:

COMPRESSOR - to compress low pressure gas into a high pressure gas

CONDENSER - to take the high pressure gas and remove heat

EXPANSION DEVICE - to take the low pressure liquid after removing the heat and meter it into a low pressure gas

EVAPORATOR - to take the low pressure gas and absorb heat from the interior cabin

Of course, there are the appropriate amount of seals and lines and NO, you can't run garden hose in place of the proper hose. On the high side, you can have pressures over 400 lbs sq in. That's dangerous.

You need to seek the help of a professional to get yours going again.

Is there an existing system left on the car. Before you start buying stuff I would assume that you inventory what you have and then determine what needs to be replaced. These cars had very simple AC systems and there is no complexity for a DIY'er to install/replace components. Once you get the existing system flushed and install the replacement parts then if you are not comfortable with vacuum leak testing and refilling with freon then take it to someone who does this. You need to follow some standard safety precautions but that is only when you need to refill it. Check out some of the youtube videos just to get familiar with various systems.

 

I haven't taken inventory I just was wondering what all it would take I have no idea what a stock setup complete looks like I usually just melt through summer and got curious

 

Take several pictures of your engine compartment and post them here. Should be enough people here to see what you have and what you need.
