Default Auto shift and OD issues

Hi. I have a '93 245 auto I'm using as a winter car and have a problem with the transmission. The car shifts hard from 1rst to 2nd and then will stay in 2nd unless I let up on the gas. When I let up on the gas, it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, but won't go into OD.

When I got the car for parts, the fluid was low in the tranny and the electronic OD was shot. Since I was using it for parts, I didn't really care. After harvesting the parts I needed, the old car was still in pretty good shape, so I decided to ressurect it as a daily.

I added fluid to the tranny and put in an IPD overdrive bypass (have bypass on my '89 and love it!). I was hoping new fluid and bypass would solve the tranny issues, but not so much.

Before I drag it to a transmission shop, does anyone have an suggests about where to look/general help, etc. I'd hate to drag it to a shop and pay $$ to find out it was something stupid I missed.

Thanks!!

I'd verify the transmission throttle cable (often called kickdown cable) is retracting properly when you let up on the gas.

silvermine he already installed the IPD overdrive bypass plate, kinda late to be messing with the relay.

that usually suggests some grit is plugging the hydraulic control labyrinth passages inside the transmission.

right u are. my own experience was that i got a brand new solenoid and it still did not work. took it off and blew out the passages for a couple of seconds with the solenoid off , replaced and voila it worked ....and has worked since other than a faulty od relay which was easily diagnosed/replaced.
