Balancer pulley wobble
I just bought this 240 a little over a month ago and I’ve been having problems with the harmonic balancer pulley. It started wobbling and shredded through the old belt.(didn’t break but nearly did) I replaced the harmonic balancer pulley but didn’t necessarily have the correct tools for the job. I ended up bolting the pulley to a board to keep it from spinning and getting it as tight as I could with a breaker bar. However, it didn’t get rid of the wobble. Could this be due to installing it wrong or is there a more serious issue I need to take care of? I’ve noticed a clicking sound coming from the engine that I don’t think it had when I bought it, from the research I’ve done I can assume it’s the valve lifters. I’m 19 and undertaking this as a project car, I like to say I’m knowledgeable on cars but this is getting a bit out of comfort zone. I got a 240 because I wanted a reliable classic that I could drive and restore but I’ve had nothing but issues
Hoonk is right, check to be sure the small notch in the harmonic balancer lines up with the bump on the crank pulley. I've "missed the mark" before, just gently rotate the HB until it finds the bump, then torque the crank nut.
