Default Brake failure warning light

Hello all, I have a 1992 GL that is my daughters car, and it is in excellent condition otherwise from an annoying brake failure warning light that comes on intermittently. sometimes when going down a hill or flashing off and on, like there is a short in it some where. Where is the warning indicator sensor located at anyway? the brakes are fine and the car drives perfectly.

the brake warning light is a level sensor on the brake reservoir. this could mean you're low on brake fluid. if you are, a thorough inspection of the braking system should be made before simply refilling it....

for example, if the brake pads and rotors are worn, the brake fluid will naturally be lower as the pistons are pushed further out, the correct solution is new brake pads (and possibly rotors)... and if its not been done in a couple years, flushing the brake fluid is a very good idea.

if there are any leaks of brake fluid, that must be fixed immediately before driving the car or you could suffer loss of control.

Default brake failure warning light

Well, I know for a fact that the car has new breaks that are just over a year old and new tires, and the break fluid is full in both chambers. The light is intermittent, not on all the time just off and on like a wire is grounding off and on.

then check the wiring at the switch on the reservoir... if you unplug the switch, and tape off the wire so it can't short into something, the light should stay out. grounding that wire should make the light come on solid.

there's 3 dashboard lights on a 240 for the brakes... there's the actual brake failure one, there's the (P) parking brake, which is a microswitch in the handle, and there's the ABS. I guess on USA models, the 240's are labeled with words rather than icons so its hard to mix them up

so, if the light still comes on intermittently when the brake fluid reservoir switch is disconnected, that means there's a short in the wire somewhere (failed insulation letting it touch the frame?), or there's a problem in the instrument panel itself.

when you switch on the key, do all the dashboard warning lights come on, and when you start it, they all go out, except maybe this brake failure light? thats how it should be, but if anything else is happening, it should be investigated.

hmmm. thats rigth, late 240s have the failure sensor switch in the distribution/proportioning block thats down by the steering box, this triggers if the pressure in the two circuits isn't the same.
