Default Brake lines: Bubble or Double Inverted Flare?

I'm a newbie to making up my own brake lines. This is for a 1989 240. So, 2 questions: 1) Do Volvos use a Bubble flare or a Double Inverted flare on brake lines? 2) Does It Really Matter? (in other words, can you do either kind of flare and use the same fittings)?

Things I've learned so far: Bubble flare connections are only easy to seal up the first time to connect them. After that you have to really tighten the male coupler to get them to seal. Double flares _may_ be a bit more forgiving this way.

You can buy either kind of flaring kit fairly cheaply, like $25 or so, but it may be better to buy a better grade. Any recommendations on what to buy?

Thanks, all!

I'll answer your questions in the order asked.

1. Bubble
2. Yes
2nd part of second question. No you can not

I've never had a sealing problem with bubble or double flare. Most sealing problems arise from the fitting being overtightened,or the flare not being formed correctly.

I have a BrakeQuip flare kit, kinda expensive but I use it several times a week for brake and fuel lines.OTC makes a flare kit for around 30 bucks, any good name brand kit should be fine.

Buy plenty of spare brake tubing and practice, practice, practice.
