Default Car idles terrible!

Ok here goes another post about my '82 244 GL. I recently replaced the flame trap and hose because the old one was totally cracked and clogged and well just looked like hell. To do this i had to take off the intake manifold. I replaced it and got everything put back together fine but now the car idles terribly. It shakes and misses and feels like its about to die every time it comes down to and idle. The funny thing is that is runs great at any speed higher than an idle. I am getting really frustrated with it because i can never seem to get it to just run well. Doe anyone know what could be causing this? Could it be that the valve timing is off? I'm 99% sure that all the vacuum hoses are hooked up properly. Any help would be great.

yeah, vacuum would be my first question, but if you say you're sure...

what about the idle-air motor, throttle switch, all air-induction conduits, double check the vacuum lines, and timing marks. check that you installed ALL the connectors that you diconnected; injectors, IAC motor, throttle switch, EGR, etc.

I will definitey double chack all the vacuum lines. Where is the idle-air motor located? Is that part of the CIS systm?

I would look directly under the intake manifold area, should be next to the PVC box and behind the distributor. it's a bosch unit, silver/metallic in color and is shaped as cylindrical with a tee-geometry port access for conduit connection.

Someone on another forum sent me this link. http://www.fcpgroton.com/images/0280140500.jpg. I have something that looks very similar to this only it is mounted on top of the engine block right between the intake manifold and the engine. its basically the very top thing on the whole engine if that makes any sense. It is part of the CIS (Constant Idle Speed) system. Two hoses hook up to the T on top and run into the intake manifold. Is this it? or is this something different? It looks very similar to that only it is black on the bottom and has a wire that plugs into the very top.

I think it is good. When i unplug the wire from it the engine speed drops and it almost dies but when i plug it back in the speed comes up. So I think that that unit is working properly. I double checked the vacuum lines and i can't find anything wrong. I'm thinking it has something to do with the air induction but i just can't figure out what. My next though would be valve timing but if that was off the car wouldn't run perfectly at higher speeds like it does. So?

squirt water around the injectors, if it's sucked into the car then you're seals are bad and you may have water contaminated oil!

Haven't thought of that. I'll try that today.

I am in shock and awe right now. I checked the injector seals just like you said and sure enough the water was sucked in. So i picked up new O rings for the injectors and I really can't believe the difference that 10 minutes of work and 4 little rings made. It went from running so horribly that I was about to give up on it to running better than it ever has before! It runs better than when I bought it. Thanks for the tip I would probably still be messing around with a bunch of other stuff and spending more money when all it needed was 5 bucks worth of O rings.

Yeah the injector seals are often overlooked because of their simple yet devious nature.

They don't last long, they fatigue quick being rubber o rings. The loosy seal to the injectors sucks unclean air into the block, lessens pressure to injectors causing pattern warp and lean engine mixture from drawn air. Idle speed gets really messed up.
