Default Crank Pulley Torque Discrepancy

Hey guys,

Recently did the timing belt on my 92 240.

I followed the torque setting according to the Haynse manual: "60 Nm".

I've since seen people saying that there is need for 45/60 degree after this as well.

- Which is correct?
- Should I be redoing the additional degrees?

Cheers,
Cris

The crankshaft bolt requires the additional 45/60 degrees if I remember correctly. Your Haynes manual should include this information as I believe that is where I read it. I can't check anymore as I gave my manual to the person who purchased my last 240.

fwiw, for 240's, the Bentley book is far superior. the Haynes books are way too generic.

Those torque values are correct.

Thanks for the reply all, I may bin the Haynes manual.

I've rented the crank pulley holder to redo the torque.

Cheers,
Cris

Yes, but I wouldn't sweat it--as long as you got it nice and tight with a 1/2" ratchet it should be OK. I've done some 20 of these over the years and never had one come loose, and I never torque them... The only thing I torque are head bolts... Red Blocks are very forgiving...

+1 on what Lev said. I never torqued mine either. I used a good 1/2 breaker bar an tightened it good-n-tight.

I am surprised, I thought I was the only one recklessly breaking the rules...
