Engine Dies Momentarily - '94 940
Greetings All,
I've seen some posts on this topic but I am not seeing a consistent resolution to the problem. Mine is:
* Engine starts and runs fine for a +week or more.
* Warm engine will just suddenly shut down (tach goes to zero, all warning lights on). It's only happened four times, but seems like wet weather or stop and go situations mainly, but no consistency.
* Turning key will not get electrical system past warning lights being on, that is, it won't turn over/crank.
* After maybe 20-30 seconds and letting it sit off, it will crank over and run like new, that is, for a week or two and then it will just show-up again.
I read about a few distributor related issues, such as a bad ground or impulse sensor, which I will check, but what other actual solutions have been found for this wierd situation?
Thanks - Big AL

your particular situation is similiar to many 200/700/900 raunning failures, in the end the fix is knowing ho to fix it. go figure.
anyways, have you checked to see if the diagnostic unit is giving out any fault codes?????
that number one to check. how's your idle-air control motor? throttle-body clean? could be a failing RPM sensor. check these out first.

If it won't turn over or crank, then most likely it has to be (1) the battery, (2) alternator related, or (3) an ignition wiring problem. Next time it dies, try using a remote starter to feed current from the battery + terminal directly to the + lead on the starter. (Or, you could use that little remote lead that hangs off the middle of the engine firewall. Mine doesn't work.)
