Default a few issues on a 240

hi,

i just went to look at a 1986 volvo 240DL. These are some of the issues it has. i think it needs brakes because they make noise and vibrate a bit. My biggest concern is that when you turn the steering wheel it makes this noise like a wine or something. I looked at the power steering fluid was low and didn't look to healthy. Do you think it would need a rack or a pump? its got a few cracks on the dash. Decent interior. there is some rust on the wheel wells bought on a little on one side. Probably a good oil spray is needed before winter.
Thats all i found so far. It took some cranking to start. He said it has been sitting for a little bit and it is rather cold today.
I don't know what do use think about it? Anything else to look for? oh and i forgot to mention that the tach doesn't work.

Any help is greatly appricated.

Nick

The vibration is warped rotors.
If it is low on fluid that would make it whine.

Yes it will be hard to turn if it is low on fluid. It might also feel jumpy when turning.

If it was me I would buy it. Sounds like a good car for the price I mean STEAL!!

go ahead and buy it, its a fun car. I bought my wife a 240dl, for 1,200 with 195,000 miles.

i have had to do brakes and a couple of vaccum hoses........

i would hop in it right now and drive it to florida.
Very dependable car.

will never buy anything but a volvo , ever again.

just work out the bugs and enjoy
