Default Headlight Switch not working

So my headlight switch is broken, it turns all around and it does not turn my headlights on.

I have a spare dash that I have been meaning to replace, so I have a spare switch there, but how do you remove the switch, do I have to remove the whole dash?

I really need my headlights

Thx!

What car is this? Generally Volvo just pull the **** off, there is a threaded slotted ring behind it you unscrew, use needle nose pliers if too tight. In all 2/7/9 series the base part where the switch mounts is a separate piece clipped on--remove it with a flat screwdriver.

Its 1988 240dl, sorry I thought I had it posed...

How do I get to un clip it? Do I need to take the speedometer out?
Bc when I take the cover off I just see the **** going into the switch and that's it.

there should be a nut around the shaft, visible when you remove the trim bezel around the headlight switch.... remove that nut and the switch pulls out behind the dash (remove the kick panel under the dash, and reach up behind it to pull the **** out). I forget if an 88 240 has a knee panel under the dash, if it does, removing that greatly improves access back there.

Oh I had some protective bracket or something so I couldnt see the nut. I just fixed the problem. Thank you all!!!

So what happened is that that nut was loose and my switch was rotating as I was turning the **** and the wires in the back would get tangled to the point where I was able to turn the switch and turn the lights on so I guess after almost 2 years of twisting those wires in the back, headlight wire on the switch broke off and that was my problem... There was very little slack so I had to solder them.

Everything works now, thx again guys!! One of these days I will restore this car, I think it deserves it.
