Help me plz 93 Volvo 940 turbo
So I thought my 93 Volvo 940 was fast until me and my girlfriend race she was in an 03 Chevy cavy I lost😩 I wana start performance upgrades but I don't know where to begin any suggestions would be appreciated

The first step is make sure all your stock stuff is working properly. Check the plugs. Make sure the gap is correct. Change the air filter. Change the fuel filter. Check the ignition timing. Replace the distributor cap and rotor. Keep the oil fresh.
You could get a K&N air filter instead of the paper filter. If everything else seems to be good try adding a bottle Chevron Techtron to a tank of gas to clean the injectors. It may be a good idea to do a compression test to be sure that your engine is still sealing well.
Be careful with the mods because you may have to pass emissions.
You may also want to ask this on the Turbobricks forum.

K&N AIR FILTERS ARE AWFUL SNAKE OIL. DO NOT PUT ONE ON YOUR CAR UNLESS YOU WANT TO RUIN YOUR MOTOR.
they will NOT give you more horsepower under ANY sane conditions. the stock paper air filter breathes extremely well and does a great job on filtering dust out of the motor.
actually beefing up your horsepower will be expensive, and the higher you go the more frequently more expensive parts will break (transmissions, differentials, etc). before you start, your car should be in PERFECT like new mechanical condition, as anything thats tired WILL get stressed.
p.s. next time race that Chevy on a narrow mountain road with lots of tight hairpins and such. be sure your brakes and cooling system are in first class shape ahead of time.

yeah, that is probably the ultimate. a small block ford, or chevy, with all the engine management etc. you probably should replace the transmission too with something heavier duty, like a Ford T5 stickshift. the stock volvo rear end can handle this if you don't drag race. see the sticky thread by swiftjustice at the top of this forum for his over-the-top build.

Wow, now were talking V-8! You can't let your girlfriend beat you in a Chevy, Cavalier. I don't know how these cars match up when new, but the 940 is heavy. You may want to practice technique before pulling out the engine or playing with boost.
Hold the car at the line with one foot on the brake and one on the gas. Bring up the rpms. When it is time to go. Get off the brake pedal and mash the gas. Try doing this at various rpm and see which gets the best launch. Drag racing is often won or lost in the first 60 feet.
Since this is a turbo, the engine management system may be checking for knock and retarding the timing and cutting back boost when it senses knocking. Try premium gas.
Or you could just say that the Cavalier is faster, but that the Volvo is the better car overall. Which would you rather drive every day?

There's nothing worse than cruising in your 940, only to get destroyed by a tinsel wire Cavalier driven by your girlfriend.
But you know, a brick has a ton of space under the hood for some serious power upgrades. Sure, you could go for a regular V8, and its probably one of the easier engine swaps to do, but if you want to outrun her at a drag strip, why not go all out?
I'm talking about going the full RB26DETT engine and 6-speed manual swap. Its not impossible to fit, but it will sure be impossible to beat. That's what you want isn't it? At the end of a couple years of work and and empty pockets that go as deep as the grand canyon, you'll be smiling because you beat a Cavalier.
