Default Hood secondary latch interference with fan

tl;dr: 91 240 wagon, stock cooling fan. the hood safety latch hits the electric fan blades if I push down on the hood (or if I hit a bump)

I was driving a few weeks ago, hit a bump and my electric cooling fan lost a blade. I looked at the fan, and the plastic was dry rotted, so I just assumed the blade just came off. Ordered new fan and new mounts for the fan. Installed it, tested, worked great. Shut the hood, with the engine and fan running and the fan broke again. So I pulled the grill and looked closer. What seems to happen is that when the hood is latched, there's no interference, but if I push down on the hood, the safety latch on the hood hits the fan. The fan is factory, not an add-on.

When I first bought the car, the latch pin on the hood was missing (the one with the spring on it). I got a used pin from the pick and pull and installed that into the existing plate on the hood. I'm going to try to bend the secondary latch so it doesn't interfere, but I thought I'd ask the crowd to see if maybe I'm missing something.

oh, and thanks for the ad!

TIA.

May be the latch you installed is longer than the original? May be you could grind it down a bit? Can't think of any other reason, never heard of that before.
