Ignition switch 1989 volvo DL
My ignition switch broke and I cant afford to buy the replacement part wich cost 100.00 and up.
I bought a four position universal from auto parts store for 20.00.
Discovering volvo wiring is not the same as your basic three way Im going to need the wiring schematics to know what color wires go to what. I cant make it to the library and have no one to help me out in my situation. Im stuck like chuck with no transportation. Life with no wheels is making life very complicated. If anyone has any input to direct me in the right direction I will kiss your feet!

luckily, I have the wiring diagrams for a 1989 240 (DL is just a trim level, and on later 240s really didn't mean much).... loading that diagram now...
sooo, big red wire is, of course, 'circuit 30', power right off the battery by way of the positive terminal (which on a 240 is on the left fender wall relay bracket).
circuit 15 is red/black (to fuel pump relay) and blue-yellow (to fuses 11-13), and is on in II (run) and III (start).
circuit 50 is blue, and is the starter, so on in III (start) only, this goes to the park/neutral safety switch and on to the solenoid.
circuit X is accessory power, on in I(accessory) and II (run) but not III (start), and is a yellow (to fuses 1-3) and a yellow-black (to headlight switch) wire
circuit "S" is on when the key is in the ignition and goes to the warning chime via a white-red wire (this is so the chime goes off if the drivers door is opened with the key in the ignition but switched off). you can probably leave this wire taped off as I doubt your generic key-switch has this function.
