Default Instrument cluster compatability

Just bought a new instrument cluster for my 240 wagon. I have a 91 and I got a cluster from an 89. It doesnt have an ABS light on the new cluster or an airbag. Will this effect my ABS brakes or my airbags in any way other then not having the warning lights? I would have swapped just the speedos but my old cluster is fried. Also the check engine light is in a different slot..will that still function?

not sure the wiring is 100% compatible between those years. would probably require studying the greenbooks for both years and noting any differences in the instrument panel connections.

The only wire that did not plug in was the pink and white wire that I am assuming is abs related. All of my gauges work fine. The cruise control seems to make a noise when engaged. Been trying to get my dash in proper working order for two months..

the red/white wire on a 240 instrument panel is the optional tachometer, and plugging it into the wrong place fries stuff.

I learned that the hard way. There is a pink wire also.

If your car has ABS and you didn't swap the speedo board from your old cluster, I would expect that your speedometer would read incorrect speed as the ABS cars had a different tone ring in the differential than non-ABS cars ('89 did not have ABS). Actually, the connector to the speedometer has different number of wires for non-ABS vs. ABS.

Other than the speedometer circuit board, I think the main circuit board is compatible but I can't be completely sure. If your cruise control is working, I don't think the extra noise is due to the cluster swap.

You can test the ABS easy enough whether it is working or not--it should be OK. The SRS, hard to test. At any rate you won't know if these systems are working properly without the lights--they are both computerized and the lights are a part of the circuit. Diagnostic checks will show faults. You can probably adopt the board to function but it will take some fiddling...
